SXSW Film 2012 is still open for submissions. Filmmakers are invited to submit their new features, short films, music videos and title sequences to the annual event, a renowned destination for discovery.
The SXSW Film Conference and Festival is a uniquely creative environment featuring the dynamic convergence of talent, smart audiences and industry heavyweights. The SXSW Film Festival is a highly competitive program consisting of several different sections, curated in-house by SXSW Film Programmers.
SXSW is an official qualifying festival for the Academy Awards Short Film competition. The Best Narrative Short and Best Animated Short winners become eligible for the Academy Awards.
Wanted: Short + Feature Films, Music Videos, Opening Title Sequences
SXSW Film accepts submissions in the following categories:
- Narrative Feature,
- Documentary Feature,
- Narrative Short,
- Documentary Short,
- Animated Short,
- Texas High School Short,
- Music Video, and
- Opening Title Sequence.
Submission Deadlines:
- Early Deadline Tuesday, 4 October 2011
- Late Deadline Tuesday, 1 November 2011
- Last Minute Deadline Tuesday, 15 November 2011.
Please keep in mind, these deadlines are on a RECEIVED BY basis, (NOT based on a postmark date). In other words, all 2012 film submissions must arrive at the SXSW offices in Austin no later than 15 November 2011.
SXSW Film 2012 Offers Audience + Jury Awards
The awards comprise a balance of Audience and Jury selected winners, including SXSW Film Design awards for the SXSW Film Design Awards for Excellence in Poster and Title Design.
Important Regulations
- To be eligible for SXSW 2012 your film must have been completed 2010 in 2011 or be on track for completion in early 2012.
- SXSW defines short films as films with a runtime less than 40 minutes and a feature films as films with a runtime over 40 minutes.
- SXSW does accept work-in-progress cuts (picture lock with temp sound, color, etc.) but will not accept subsequent cuts of more complete versions.
- Any materials you send will not be returned.
