AOI’s World Illustration Awards (WIA) 2020

The Association of Illustrators (AOI) in partnership with USA-based Directory of Illustration, announces the World Illustration Awards 2020.

Professional and new talent illustrators living and working in any country in any format and media, are invited to submit work made in the 2019 calendar year to the ten categories of the Awards: Advertising, Book Covers, Commercial Publishing, Alternative Publishing, Children’s Publishing, Design, Product & Packaging, Editorial, Exploration, Science & Technology and Site Specific, representing the major areas in contemporary illustration.

The Category and Overall Winners will be announced at a high-profile awards ceremony in central London at an exhibition featuring all shortlisted entries, alongside in-depth displays of winning entries.

The Overall Winners will be presented cash prizes to the value of £3,000 at the Awards Ceremony, to be announced alongside the Category Winners, who will each take home a coveted WIA Trophy. In addition, four Cross-Category Awards will be presented this year, including a new Innovation Award, recognizing work that truly pushes the boundaries of the artform.

500 illustrators will be longlisted, and featured on the AOI Website.

200 shortlisted entrants, selected by an independent jury, will be presented in a digital and print publication sent to commissioners worldwide, and presented in a new-look exhibition at Elephant West, one of London’s most exciting cultural venues.

The AOI first ran an annual competition, called Images, in 1975 that was open to any British Illustrator. In 2012, Images was replaced by the AOI Illustration Awards, which ran for 2 years. In 2015 The AOI formed a partnership with the Directory of Illustration in the USA and created the World Illustration Awards.
