AfghanMade Carpet Design Competition

AfghanMade is hosting a carpet design competition for students and young designers. The competition is part of The Carpet Design Awards at Domotex Hannover 2014 (11-14 January 2014) one of the largest and most influential fair for floor coverings.

Inspiring students and young designers are invited to create modern carpet designs using the traditional weaving techniques of Afghanistan.

The competition has two categories:

  • Students
  • Young designers

A panel of judges featuring individuals with extensive carpet experience will undertake the initial round of judging. A second panel of esteemed judges will select the top three designs in each category, which will represent the finalists in each category.

Each finalist will receive a 5′ x 7′ carpet of their design handmade in Afghanistan and the winner of each category will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

The winning designs will be featured in HALI (the leading international quarterly magazine for the rug and textile market) and be displayed at Domotex 2014, as part of The Carpet Design Awards.

The winners of each category will have the opportunity to travel to Hannover to receive their awards during Domotex 2014. Travel expenses will be provided.

The AfghanMade Carpet Design Competition is organized in partnership with the The Task Force for Business and Stability Operations (TFBSO), an organisation under the U.S. Department of Defense, the HALI international quarterly magazine and the Domotex fair for floor coverings.
