24th Japan Media Arts Festival – Festival Platform Award

The 24th Japan Media Arts Festival is open for entries, completed between 30 November 2019 and 20 October 2020, for the Festival Platform Award.

This year’s competition categories include: Geo-Cosmos and Dome Theater. All artists around the world, without distinction as to professional, amateur, independent, or commercial, are invited to submit their works.

The winner in each competition category will receive a certificate, trophy, and prize money up to 500,000 JPY.

Works that satisfy the following criteria are eligible for entry:

  • Completed or released between Saturday, 30 November 2019 and Tuesday, 20 October 2020, or new works created for the spherical exhibitions at Miraikan
  • Are created for spherical surfaces or domes
  • Are video works, or application programs capable of real-time video creation that can be projected onto a screen

Geo-Cosmos Category

For this category, the organizers solicit video works and application programs designed for screening and viewing from multiple viewpoints on Geo-Cosmos, the signature exhibition of Miraikan — The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.

Dome Theater Category

For this category, the organizers solicit video works and application programs designed for screening in Dome Theater GAIA at Miraikan.

About Japan Media Arts Festival

The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of “Media Arts” (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) that recognizes outstanding works in Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. The festival has awarded prizes to significant, creative works of artistic value since its establishment in 1997, and through its annual Exhibition of Award-winning Works, it has offered the public an opportunity to directly appreciate these celebrated works, and also to participate in related events such as symposia and artists’ lectures.

Last year, the 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival received 3,566 entries from 107 countries and regions in its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation and Manga. In each divisions, Grand Prizes, Excellence Awards, New Face Awards, and the new awards Social Impact Award and U-18 Award were selected. Other than the four divisions, newly created award, Festival Platform Award received 46 entries from 17 countries and regions and selected Award-winning Works. In addition to it, Special Achievement Award selected people who contributed in the Field of Media Arts.
